Mbaise Cultural Assocation, Michigan was formed in June 1994 by a group of Mbaise sons. They are Mr. Simeon C. Ohakpo aka Oshimiri, Mr. Tobias Amadi. These two sons of Mbaise got other Mbaise people involved. These included Mayor G. Okoro, Councilman Kyrian Nwagwu, Dr. Obinna Chukwu, Joakin Nwogu, late Dr. Alloysius Aguwa, Charles Osuagwu, Innocent Opara, Ezeji Johnson Ogbonna, Anselm Ugoona, Cosmos Ukandu, Andrew Anyanwu and Innocent Agomuoh.
The first meeting was at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Ohakpo in Detroit, MI. The meeting was initially called "Umunawike Mbaise Association". Mr. Ohakpo and Mr. Amadi were elected the first Chairman and Vice Chairmand respectively.
The first iriji was hosted at Councilman Kyrian Nwagwu's house in Southfield, MI. The name was changed in 2006 to "Mbaise Cultural Association of Michigan, Inc." during the administration of Ezeji Johnson Ogbonna who was the chairman at the time.
In 2006, the organization filed the necessary papers with the Internal Revenue Service, and was granted status as a Public Charity under section 501(c) (3) of the IRS code.
